My own Talking Dead: Beth and Everything!

I just have to get my thoughts about the Walking Dead out of me!  Here goes...

Beth

Beth's death has affected me more than any other so far on The Walking Dead.  I won't analyze it too much, but my spontaneous outburst as I cried and covered my mouth in stillness was, " She's just a little girl!" So perhaps I'll just leave it at that.  I do like her decision to hug Noah and to make that last-second move to use the scissors.  It reminds me of her teenage pissed off wanting to get a drink.  She is very smart, but she's a teenager and they don't always think through the full possibilities of consequences like the armchair viewers think they would be able to do.  Teenagers are impulsive.  I like that she was always trying to convince Daryl that there were still good people and that she left having her family trying to rescue her and having found Noah and still becoming strong and understanding the new world, too.

Maggie/Beth

Maggie not talking about Beth made complete sense to me.  When you feel things are hopeless, sometimes the silence helps you keep yourself together.  Once she found out that she was alive somewhere, she just had to hope that she would be okay, but to talk about it and wonder would make it too difficult.  And as for looking for her, where would you begin?  With Glenn she had clues and it was so recent.
Beth herself didn't mention Maggie's name; she just said things to Daryl like we might not be the only ones who made it out.

Father Gabriel, Eugene and the Concept of a Useless Character

I know I'm one of the small minority of people who like Fr. Gabriel.  I also like Eugene.  I'm also not on board with the comments people make about certain characters being more expendable because they are useless.  I have a hard time looking at anyone as useless.

Tyrese

I love Tyrese.  He hasn't become a wimp!  He is the same as he always was in temperament in many ways.  The same Tyrese who told the Governor that he would protect Woodbury from biters, but not attack the prison.  Who shoots his mouth off or gets angry quickly at times, but who learned from Michonne that the anger blinds you.  I think people forget that he was just saved by a little girl whom he then watched kill another little girl and almost kill Judith.  His best friend/girlfriend was killed by his new friend who has saved his sister and the rest of his family.  His life is more tangled up with killing and saving and confusion than any other character!

Rick vs. Shane

I don't think that Rick has turned into Shane in one major way.  Shane was very self-centered.  His motives were always about Lori and Carl and keeping them safe, but in order to be loved by them.  He was always keeping score!  Rick and the group all save each other and trust each other and have made good decisions and bad decisions, but don't continually bring them up and keep score;  they say things like, that's what we do.

Killing the Dead and Killing the Living

I think that viewers have forgotten that not every character has killed the living.  Yes, maybe it's necessary,  but it's not as easy as viewers seem to have come to believe at this point and it has a higher price than killing walkers, which some characters are just getting to do now.  Every character is at a different place.

Complainers

I try not to guess or second guess the show and its decisions.  I know I could not write it and I trust the writers and actors to take me on the ride.  I look at it as a whole and don't worry about judging each episode for every element of slow/fast/character development, etc.  In all honesty, I had the hardest time waiting to get to Terminus, but there was no choice and it was worth the wait.  And now people who say certain things were dragged out are wanting Gareth and the hospital to be more dragged out...can't win...I just go with what they give me...it's always great!

Symbolism and Foreshadowing

I wish there would be more discussion about this on Talking Dead or somewhere.  I find this fascinating!   Some of my favorites...
I've always wondered/thought that the bunny slipper girl from the first scene ever, aside from being a shocking way to start a series and let us know that the zombies aren't people, was foreshadowing Rick's ability to shoot Sophia when she came out of the barn. As he walked up to her, I knew he'd be able to shoot her because I remembered bunny slipper girl.

The beautiful wood doors of the church looking just like "Don't open dead inside" hospital doors with walker fingers.

"You can't go back, Bob!" Gareth and Rick speak exact same line.

Father Gabriel outside of church begging to get in like his congregation...I, however, didn't want him to die like many fans did.  I'm glad they let him in...broke the cycle of his fear of letting people in.

Some great ones I read about...the prison fight being inspired by clear...the prison itself becoming the attacker like Morgan's walker traps...Pardon our dust on Carol's car like saying pardon/forgive Carol...fire/ashes burning away sins, etc...we're not ashes/Daryl...walkers looking through glass...almost like watching them
